(Ski Apache, NM) The ski season is just around the corner, and Ski Apache is pleased to announce the grand opening of its new terrain park, the “Boneyard,” for the 2004-2005 season.

“We’re excited to make this new amenity available for our customers,” said Scott Goeller, director of Ski Apache’s ski and snowboard school. “The Boneyard is located on a great piece of terrain that is very visible and easily accessible for all of our skiers and snowboarders.”

The Boneyard has a gated entrance and offers a series of features that flow from one to the next. There are a total of 5 boxes, a rainbow box, 3 flat rails, a flat-down-flat rail, an A-frame rail and a battleship rail. The terrain park ends with a series of jumps near the bottom. These features will be a nice challenge for seasoned snowboarders and skiers looking to test their skills.

The Smokey Bear trail, just to the northwest of the ski lodge, was converted into the terrain park. The Boneyard is conveniently located to the left of the Lincoln lift and can be accessed off of Lincoln’s midway unload.

The site was chosen for the terrain park also because it is an easily accessible area for snow making. Terrain parks typically require a lot of snow and grooming, according to Goeller. The good location will help Ski Apache ensure the site is in good condition day after day.

“We recognized the demand some of our guests had for a terrain park,” said Goeller. “We encourage everyone to come out and give the Boneyard a try.”

The Ski Apache mountain resort is owned and operated by the Mescalero Apache Tribe. The 4,000 member Mescalero Apache tribe is located near Ruidoso, NM. Other tribal enterprises include: The Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort (re-opening March 2005) and Casino Apache, the Casino Apache Travel Center, Inn of the Mountain Gods Golf Course, and more.
